Christmas is just around the corner and in addition to the question of what to eat, there is also the question: what to drink with it?
That's why I thought I would briefly introduce you to the wines we will have:
Funnily enough, I've dealt with the question about the wines first and will then leave the food to my brother.
It was important to me to find wines that were exciting and interesting as well as flexible and complex, because, as I said, the food is not yet 100% certain and everyone has different tastes. I also wanted to buy or order the wines directly from the winemaker.
When it came to white wine, I found what I was looking for at the Martin Schwarz winery in Meißen. A 2.5 hectare winery in Saxony. Martin Schwarz and his team pursue their goal with passion and passion: to create individual wines purely by hand that are intended to inspire with their complexity and finesse, and that is what they do.
I recently had the opportunity to visit the winery and take a look behind the scenes and into the cellar. The sales manager Philipp even took the time to drive with me to the “Kapiterberg” vineyard to give me a better and clearer insight.
To The Crying:
One day there will be: 2018 Pinot Blanc & Pinot Gris.
As the name suggests, a cuvée made from 60% Pinot Blanc and 40% Pinot Gris. It is complex due to its fruit aromas and slightly spicy due to its aging in wooden barrels. The latter gives it additional body and complexity and is harmoniously balanced by the acidity. In the finish everything is rounded off by its beautiful minerality.
There will also be the: 2017 Riesling Traminer.
Also a cuvée, this time made from 80% Riesling and 20% Traminer grapes.
Its ripe fruit aromas are elegantly balanced by its lively acid structure. The wine was stored in used wooden barrels for around 9 months, which gives its smooth character a little more power and finesse. What I found particularly interesting about both wines is that they remain exciting throughout and always produce something new.
